Summary
Hamilton's mayor and city council just shook things up by naming the police chief as the new city manager. This means the guy in charge of public safety will now be running the entire day-to-day operations of the local government.

Impact analysis
While no direct budget changes were announced, having a top cop run the city could mean a major shift in how tax dollars are prioritized for public safety versus other community needs.
Residents who want a heavy focus on law enforcement and strict public safety measures will likely feel heard and protected by this move.
People hoping for fresh leadership from outside law enforcement or a broader focus on social services might feel left out of the city's new direction.
